In March, 2019 I had the opportunity to design a vignette at the Santa Barbara Design Center and talk about it on the local television. Working with Santa Barbara DC was a great experience, they offer a wide range of furniture, rugs, and decor options. They were extremely helpful in the process of creating what I envisioned for the space. I was given a room that was a little over 12 feet squared and had the freedom to use any product being sold in the store.
The space I designed was a coastal style living room. I first fell in love with the neutral carpet and pulled the rest of my inspiration from there, introducing orange to compliment the blues. To make the room feel more natural and interesting, I mixed textures, patterns, and materials. Layering carpets can really add a lot of movement and interest to the center of the room. If you look closely, you can see that I added elements of circles throughout, helping create a sense of unity.
My favorite pieces in this room are the poufs and the photograph of the women at the beach. I love how they add a bit of texture and are just simply fun! Any living space should be about your interests because it makes you feel most at home. For me, this is my love of the outdoors; especially, walking along the local beaches and hiking in the mountains. I brought this out in the pieces I chose with light wood elements, blues, neutral tones and plants. Overall, this room is a great example of my own personal style, cheerful, natural, and inviting.
